About Us

Brad is an IT manager with an engineering degree from North Dakota State University; I'm a lawyer, a graduate of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.  We both had lived in Denver for a number of years--at times in the same neighborhood, only blocks away from one another--before we met.

Our official story is we met at Thanksgiving dinner in 2009, but we'd actually met briefly a few times before that.  Thanksgiving 2009 is when we connected.  I remember when he walked in the door that afternoon with our mutual friend Alane.  I thought to myself "Yay, Alane's here!  And she brought a date . . . And he's hot . . . Oh, wait, that's Brad!"

We started talking and discovered how much we had in common.  Love of cooking? Check.  Love of wine?  Check.  Rescue dogs?  Check.  Travel, books, music, movies? Check, check, check, check.  And he was wearing cowboy boots (*swoon*).  Brad is a fantastic storyteller and he kept us all entertained with tales from his recent business trip to Costa Rica, including how he nearly died when he became trapped beneath his raft after being ejected on Class V rapids.  I told my friends only half jokingly that I'd finally met the perfect guy, the male version of myself.  I had never before met someone with whom it was so easy to be around, to just relax and be myself.  And did I mention he was smokin' hot?

Brad is an avid cyclist, tackling steep mountain climbs at every possible opportunity.  I took up cycling last year so I could accompany my friend Alane on a fantastic trip to Spain and France.  (Note, it's not necessarily advisable for your third time on a road bike to be in the Pyrenees.  It's not quite as easy as Lance makes it look.)  And now I'm able to tag along with Brad on his Sunday morning "recovery" rides, which give me quite a workout!

2008 Chicago Marathon
I'm primarily a distance runner, training for and completing a few marathons each year.  Brad is a great travelling companion, particularly for a marathon.  He always finds the best restaurants, which is crucial to hungry runners!  Last year he came with me to the Boston and NYC Marathons, and so far this year the Napa Valley Marathon.  Next up is the San Francisco Marathon in July.

Brad adopted Zorba (solid black GSD) from the Boulder Humane Society when she was about five years old; she was a rescue dog from the island of St. Croix. I adopted Ruby (Rottweiler) from MaxFund, a no kill shelter in Denver, when she was about two years old.   They are a constant source of entertainment to us, if not to each other.

Zorba's survival insincts, honed by several years of foraging for food on the island, are always on display when we go to the park. She quietly stalks squirrels that seem pretty nonplussed by her, instead animatedly taunting her from a safe distance.

Ruby enjoyed running with me for several years until arthritis slowed her down.  Now she contents herself with "de-squeaking" and "de-stuffing" all of Zorba's toys and sitting expectantly at my side in the kitchen while I chop, hoping for a scrap of apple, carrot, broccoli, or whatever else is on the menu.
